Remarks by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam Le Thi Thu Hang regarding Viet Nam’s reaction to the situation in Ukraine and citizen protection work for Vietnamese nationals
On 23 February 2022, in response to the question of Vietnamese and foreign press agencies on Viet Nam’s reaction to the situation in Ukraine and citizen protection work for Vietnamese nationals, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that:
Viet Nam follows with keen attention the tensions in Ukraine, and calls on all parties to exercise restraint, step up dialogue and promote diplomatic measures to peacefully resolve disputes on the basis of respect for the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law, thereby contributing to peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
Regarding citizen protection work for Vietnamese nationals in Ukraine, the Embassy of Viet Nam in Ukraine, in recent days, has made frequent contacts and exchanges with the local Vietnamese community to grasp their situation. The Embassy has also proactively drafted plans to implement citizen protection measures as necessary. In addition, officials operating the citizen protection hotline are on standby around the clock to receive information. According to the Embassy, there are around 100 Vietnamese nationals currently residing in Donetsk and Lugansk. Their situation is, at present, fundamentally stable.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine to request local authorities to offer assistance in ensuring the life and property of Vietnamese nationals and businesses in Ukraine. To request for assistance or provide information on Vietnamese nationals in hardships, please contact the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine through its citizen protection hotline at + 380 (63) 863 8999, or the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at +84-981-848-484.
